East Darling Harbour
Objective
The premise of this competition entry is to establish a new form of edge to Sydney Harbour conceived as a self-contained energy generator and a response to the crisis of sustainability and the impact of climate change. The project reintroduces a daily fruit and vegetable market to the central city area and brings the activities of production and consumption into close proximity.
Outcome
- Glazed roof canopy incorporating dye solar cell technology generating 6 megawatts
- Greenhouse contained within double layered canopy over the fruit and vegetable market
- Mix of residential, commercial, retail and tourist uses
- Major new park and extensive waterfront promenade
